Avril's Goodbye Has Spunk

Avril Lavigne has just released Goodbye. This song and its video presentation are heavy with a sullenness related to more than a mere see ya' later. Sure this offering is coincident with the last show of Ms. Lavigne's one year on the road Black Star Tour. Such an performance endeavor is beyond exhausting unto itself. But, b-u-t...

There's more! Lavigne is 27. Skateboard punk rockers are long in tooth at 25. Doubtless she pulls off the energy of her schtick, but... Is it time? Is this the time to move on and become a more mature (for want of a better descriptor) performer? Is it this notion of moving to the next chapter the cause of those vampire-like mascara tears?

The execution of the video is wonderful. Kudos to Mark Liddell. The sense of desperation, frustration and angst coupled with the timeless beauty of both Avril and the Chateau Marmont make replay-replay-replay necessary. The song is soulful, sad and mesmerizing.

These stills were all taken from the video. They follow chronologically. Compelling is Lavigne's look back at us in the last frame. Shaken and bruised, she is not broken. Her inner strength is telling one and all there is a lot more left. Spunk, that girl has spunk. Ya' can't buy that anywhere!

Fin

Oh, Avril wore a pair of Louboutins in the video. Hot as those pumps are, there was no choice but to finish off with this image!
