Monday, Shoot it Down

It's Monday morning, like early 4:48. Time has tolled this joint and that and so tell me why I don't like Mondays? 600 mg of ibuprofen on some fetid yogurt is Monday's blueberry pancakes with a rasher of bacon. Work, ugh, "I want to shoot the whole day down." No tune can capture the misery of Monday like Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats, I Don't Like Mondays. Geldof is an Irish humanitarian singer, who was responsible in large measure for Live Aid. This was a multi stage and multinational concert held on July 13, 1985. Held on two live stages in Wembley, England and Philadelphia, PA USA and many satellite linked sites, over two billion people spectated. Live Aid was held to raise money and awareness for African poverty and starvation, in particular for the country of Ethiopia.

Oddly, Geldof wrote this song after reading about Brenda Ann Spencer. In 1979, as a sixteen year old she killed 2 teachers and injured 8 school children and 1 cop as she shot into a schoolyard in San Diego CA. When asked why she did it, she replied she didn't like Mondays and that the shoot up livened up the day! Here are the lyrics for I Don't Like Mondays.
